Sending integration

Connect SendGrid to MailNesto

Use your SendGrid account with event webhooks for bounces and complaints.

Overview

SendGrid and MailNesto, together

If you already have a SendGrid account, you can keep using it as the delivery engine behind MailNesto. Add it as a delivery server with an API key, and MailNesto sends over SendGrid’s SMTP relay with its own routing, warm-up and failover around it.

Point SendGrid’s Event Webhook at MailNesto and bounces and spam reports come back as they happen. Hard bounces and complaints suppress the address so you never email it again; temporary deferrals are ignored while SendGrid is still retrying.

What syncs

What moves between SendGrid and MailNesto

From MailNestoOutgoing email

Campaigns, automations and transactional email through smtp.sendgrid.net on port 587, with the username apikey and your API key as the password.

Into MailNestoBounces

Bounce events are recorded as hard bounces; blocked messages count as soft; dropped messages with a bounce reason count as hard.

Into MailNestoSpam reports

spamreport events mark the contact as complained and add the address to your suppression list.

Set it up

Connect SendGrid in a few minutes

  1. 1

    Create an API key

In SendGrid create an API key with Mail Send permission and authenticate your sending domain there.

  2. 2

    Add the server in MailNesto

Open Sending → Servers & routing → Add server → SendGrid. The username is already set to apikey; paste the key as the password, choose speed and priority, and save. The connection is tested straight away.

  3. 3

    Turn on the Event Webhook

Copy the SendGrid URL from “Bounce & complaint webhooks” on the Sending page. In SendGrid’s mail settings enable the Event Webhook with that URL and select at least bounced, dropped and spam report events.

  4. 4

    Update SPF and test

Tick SendGrid in the SPF builder to add include:sendgrid.net, then use “Test connection” on the server to send a test email through it alone.

Ideas

What you can do with it

Two providers for safety

Run SendGrid at priority 1 and another provider at priority 2. If SendGrid starts failing, mail moves to the backup without anyone touching a campaign.

Split traffic by weight

Put two servers at the same priority with weights 70 and 30 to share volume, and compare their bounce and complaint counts on the Sending page.

Feed complaints to your team

Combine the Event Webhook with an outbound “Spam complaint” webhook to your own tools, so someone looks at what triggered it.

FAQ

Questions about the SendGrid integration

Do I need SendGrid’s marketing features?

No. MailNesto only uses SendGrid to deliver mail. Lists, templates, automations and reports stay in MailNesto.

What does the Sending page show for SendGrid?

Sent and failed counts, hard and soft bounces and complaints for the last 7 days, today’s usage against the cap and the server’s share of traffic.

Are opens and clicks taken from SendGrid?

No. MailNesto tracks opens and clicks itself, with bot filtering, so reports look the same whichever provider delivers the mail.

What if the API key is revoked?

Sends fail with an authentication error, the server is marked failing after three in a row, and mail moves to your other servers. Paste a new key under Edit.
