Connect Amazon SES to MailNesto
Send through your own SES account at the lowest cost per email.
Amazon SES and MailNesto, together
Amazon SES is one of the cheapest ways to send email at volume. Connect your own SES account under Sending and MailNesto delivers your campaigns, automations and transactional email through it over SMTP, while you keep using MailNesto for building, targeting and reporting.
You get the regions most Indian senders want, Asia Pacific (Mumbai) and Asia Pacific (Hyderabad), plus Singapore, US and EU regions. Bounces and complaints come back through Amazon SNS, so bad addresses are suppressed automatically. Connecting your own servers depends on your plan; see pricing.
What moves between Amazon SES and MailNesto
Campaigns, automation emails and transactional messages sent through email-smtp.<region>.amazonaws.com on port 587, at the speed and daily limit you set.
SES notifications through an SNS topic: permanent bounces and complaints suppress the address; soft bounces count, and three in 30 days mark the address as bounced.
When you subscribe the webhook URL in SNS, MailNesto confirms the subscription for you, accepting only genuine Amazon SNS addresses.
Connect Amazon SES in a few minutes
- 1
Get SMTP credentials in SES
In the SES console verify your sending domain and create SMTP credentials under SMTP settings. These are not your IAM access keys. New SES accounts start in the sandbox, so request production access before sending campaigns.
- 2
Add the server
In MailNesto open Sending → Servers & routing → Add server → Amazon SES. Pick the region, paste the SMTP username and password, and set a daily limit if your SES quota needs one. The connection is tested when you save.
- 3
Authenticate your domain
Use the SPF builder under DNS tools and tick Amazon SES to add include:amazonses.com to your single SPF record, then check DKIM and DMARC under Deliverability.
- 4
Route bounces back
Copy the Amazon SES URL from the “Bounce & complaint webhooks” card. In Amazon SNS create a topic, add an HTTPS subscription with that URL, and set it as the bounce and complaint destination for your SES identity.
- 5
Warm up a new account
Open the server’s Warm-up and pick Gentle (30 days), Standard (21 days) or Fast (14 days). Extra mail waits or goes to your other servers until the daily cap grows.
What you can do with it
A news publisher with 2 lakh readers can send the morning newsletter through SES in Mumbai and keep a second provider as a backup at priority 2.
Limit an SES server to the From domain news.yourbrand.com so newsletters go through it, while mail from other domains goes through your other servers.
In a campaign’s delivery settings choose which servers carry it and how to split it, for example while you compare SES with another provider.
Questions about the Amazon SES integration
Why does my SES test fail with an authentication error?
Usually the IAM access key was used instead of SMTP credentials, or the credentials are for a different region. Create SMTP credentials in the same region you picked.
How fast does it send?
The default speed is 14 emails a second, which you can change to match your SES sending rate. A daily limit stops the server at your quota and moves the rest to other servers.
What happens if SES starts failing?
After three failures in a row the server is marked failing, owners and admins are notified, and mail is routed to your other servers until it recovers.
Do bounces from SES reach transactional reports too?
Yes. A bounce for a transactional message marks that message as bounced in the message log and suppresses the address on a hard bounce.
