Connect Mailgun to MailNesto
Route campaigns through Mailgun with automatic failover.
Mailgun and MailNesto, together
Mailgun can carry your MailNesto mail over SMTP from either its US or EU region. Add your Mailgun domain’s SMTP login as a delivery server and MailNesto routes campaigns, automations and transactional email through it, alone or alongside other providers.
If Mailgun has trouble, MailNesto notices: a server that fails three sends in a row is marked failing and mail moves to your other servers automatically. Mailgun’s webhooks send failed deliveries and complaints back so bad addresses are suppressed.
What moves between Mailgun and MailNesto
Sent through smtp.mailgun.org or smtp.eu.mailgun.org on port 587 with your domain’s SMTP login (for example postmaster@your-domain).
Permanent failures are hard bounces that suppress the address; temporary failures are soft bounces, and three in 30 days count as bounced.
Complained events mark the contact as complained and suppress the address.
Connect Mailgun in a few minutes
- 1
Get the SMTP login
In Mailgun open your sending domain’s SMTP credentials and note the login and password.
- 2
Add the server
In MailNesto go to Sending → Servers & routing → Add server → Mailgun. Pick US or EU, paste the login and password, and save. Use priority to make it your main server or a backup.
- 3
Add the webhooks
Copy the Mailgun URL from the “Bounce & complaint webhooks” card and add it in Mailgun’s webhooks for permanent failures, temporary failures and spam complaints.
- 4
Check DNS
Add include:mailgun.org with the SPF builder and check the domain under DNS tools, which looks up MX, SPF, DMARC, BIMI and domain blocklists.
What you can do with it
Keep Mailgun at priority 2 behind your main provider. During an outage at the main provider, campaigns keep going out through Mailgun.
An exporter in Tiruppur with buyers in Europe can send from a separate From domain limited to a Mailgun EU server.
Set a daily limit and a warm-up plan on a new Mailgun domain; anything over the cap goes to your other servers or waits until tomorrow.
Questions about the Mailgun integration
How does MailNesto choose between servers?
Lowest priority number first, then by weight among servers with room under today’s cap. If a server errors, the next one is tried.
Can I send one campaign only through Mailgun?
Yes. In the campaign’s delivery settings turn on “Choose delivery servers” and pick Mailgun.
Where can I see which server sent an email?
Delivery logs show the server for each email, and the Sending page shows each server’s share and 7-day results.
Do I need Mailgun’s tracking?
No. MailNesto tracks opens and clicks itself, so you can leave Mailgun’s tracking off.
What happens to an address after a soft bounce?
It stays on your list for now. Three soft bounces within 30 days mark it as bounced and add it to the suppression list, so a full mailbox gets a few chances before it’s removed.
