How to move from Moosend to MailNesto
Export your contacts and designs from Moosend, bring them into MailNesto and send your first campaign — usually within a day.
Moving from Moosend to MailNesto
Moosend users tend to like ready-made automation recipes, and MailNesto works the same way, with recipes for welcomes, cart recovery, reorders, birthdays and win-backs that come with the emails already written. What’s different is the rest of the account: a sales CRM with deals and tasks, event ticketing, shopper predictions and plans billed in rupees with GST invoices.
Members export from each email list by status as CSV or Excel, and designs come out of the editor’s code mode as HTML. Automations, forms and landing pages stay in Moosend. Moosend counts each unique email once across lists, and MailNesto also keeps one contact per address however many lists they’re on, so nobody doubles up.
Five steps to switch
- 1
Export from Moosend
Audience > Email lists > Export to CSV or Export to Excel (the file is emailed to the account owner); or open a list > View all members > choose a status tab > export.
- 2
Import into MailNesto
Contacts → Import: upload the CSV or Excel file (or paste it), map the columns, choose a list. Import only subscribed people, then paste unsubscribed, bounced and complained addresses into Audience → Suppression list so they never get email again.
- 3
Bring your designs
In the campaign editor's code mode: Copy HTML code to the clipboard, or download the design as a JSON file. Then import the .html or .zip in Templates, or start from one of ours.
- 4
Authenticate your domain
Add the SPF, DKIM and DMARC records MailNesto shows you, then send a test. New senders ramp up gradually to protect your reputation.
- 5
Rebuild automations
Start from a recipe (welcome, birthday, win-back, abandoned cart) or build your own journey with branches and goals. Note: Automations, forms and landing pages do not carry over. Moosend counts each unique email once across lists.
A short checklist
Keep Moosend running until your first campaigns from MailNesto look right.
- Export unsubscribed, bounced and complained contacts too — they must stay suppressed
- Note when and how people subscribed (consent) and keep it in a field
- Download reports you want to keep; engagement history doesn’t move between tools
- Replace merge tags — MailNesto uses
{{first_name}}with optional fallbacks{{first_name|there}} - Update signup forms on your website to MailNesto’s forms or the WordPress plugin
- Send to your most engaged people first while the new sender warms up
Exporting everything from Moosend
Menu names change from time to time — the steps below follow Moosend’s own help pages, linked at the bottom.
- 1
Open a list’s members. Go to Audience → Email lists, click the list name, then View all members in the left menu.
- 2
Export each status tab. Choose a tab (Active, Unsubscribed, Bounced or Archived) and use the export control at the top right: Export to CSV or Export to Excel. Active is for the list import; Unsubscribed and Bounced are for the suppression list.
- 3
Collect the files from the owner’s inbox. Moosend emails the finished file to the account owner, so exports started by a team member still land in the owner’s inbox.
- 4
Copy designs from code mode. Open a design in the campaign editor and click Code in the top menu. Copy HTML Code puts the HTML on your clipboard. Download JSON file saves Moosend’s own design format, which other tools can’t read, so use the HTML.
- 5
Note the report figures you need. Moosend’s report pages (Performance overview, Track link clicks, Track activity by location and the rest) don’t document an export, so note or screenshot the numbers you want to compare later.

Rebuilding your Moosend automations
- Welcome recipe → Welcome series, or Welcome offer if new subscribers get a discount.
- Abandoned cart recipe → Abandoned cart recovery.
- Product view follow-up → Browse abandonment, three hours after someone views products without ordering.
- Upsell and cross-sell recipes → Goes well with… a week after an order, and Second-purchase nudge for first-time buyers.
- Engagement recipes → Reward your super fans for people who opened and clicked this week, and Win back inactive for the quiet ones.
Common mistakes when leaving Moosend
- If the Name column holds full names, {{first_name}} would print both. Split it into first and last name in the spreadsheet, or map it to first name only when it really is a first name.
- Archived contacts were taken out of your audience but didn’t necessarily unsubscribe. Don’t import them as subscribed, and don’t suppress them unless they asked to stop.
- Personalisation tags like #recipient:name# left in pasted HTML print as plain text. Search for “#recipient” in each design before importing it.
- If your website sends transactional email through Moosend’s SMTP, that stops when you close the account. Move it to MailNesto’s transactional API or another SMTP provider first.
- If you set a custom domain for Moosend landing pages, it can only point to one service. Re-point it when your MailNesto landing pages are ready, not before.
- Each status tab is exported list by list. For an account with ten lists, that is up to thirty files; name them “list – status” as they arrive so the suppression files don’t get mixed into a list import.
Questions about moving from Moosend
Can I import the Excel export directly?
Yes, if it’s an .xlsx workbook; MailNesto reads the first sheet. Save an older .xls file as .xlsx or CSV first.
Are the recipes the same as Moosend’s?
They cover the same jobs with their own emails: each recipe comes with the copy written, a trigger set up and, for store recipes, product blocks filled from your catalogue. Edit any step before turning it on.
Can I show different content to different people in one email?
Yes. A conditional block shows only when a field matches, for example city is Mumbai, or when the contact has a tag.
Will my Moosend sign-up forms keep collecting?
Into Moosend, yes, until you remove them. Replace them with MailNesto forms or the WordPress plugin, then do one last export from Moosend.
