How to move from Mailmodo to MailNesto

Export your contacts and designs from Mailmodo, bring them into MailNesto and send your first campaign — usually within a day.

Overview

Moving from Mailmodo to MailNesto

Mailmodo is known for interactive AMP emails: forms, polls and quizzes inside the inbox. MailNesto sends standard HTML email, so a move means turning those widgets into a button that opens a survey, form or landing page. Teams who make the switch usually do it for the rest of the toolkit: conditional content blocks, store-driven automations, predictions, a sales CRM and event ticketing, billed in ₹ with GST invoices.

Contacts export per list or segment as CSV, and the suppression list has its own download. Templates have no documented export, and AMP content needs an HTML version anyway. Journeys, custom events and dynamic blocks have to be rebuilt.

Step by step

Five steps to switch

  1. 1

    Export from Mailmodo

Contacts > Segments and lists tab > ⋮ on the list/segment > Export to CSV (file also emailed and kept in the Download Center). Limited-access users cannot download contacts.

  2. 2

    Import into MailNesto

Contacts → Import: upload the CSV or Excel file (or paste it), map the columns, choose a list. Import only subscribed people, then paste unsubscribed, bounced and complained addresses into Audience → Suppression list so they never get email again.

  3. 3

    Bring your designs

No template export documented; copy HTML from the editor. AMP content needs a non-AMP HTML fallback elsewhere. Then import the .html or .zip in Templates, or start from one of ours.

  4. 4

    Authenticate your domain

Add the SPF, DKIM and DMARC records MailNesto shows you, then send a test. New senders ramp up gradually to protect your reputation.

  5. 5

    Rebuild automations

Start from a recipe (welcome, birthday, win-back, abandoned cart) or build your own journey with branches and goals. Note: AMP emails require Google sender whitelisting and won't carry over to tools without AMP support. Journeys, custom events and dynamic blocks must be rebuilt.

A short checklist

Keep Mailmodo running until your first campaigns from MailNesto look right.

  • Export unsubscribed, bounced and complained contacts too — they must stay suppressed
  • Note when and how people subscribed (consent) and keep it in a field
  • Download reports you want to keep; engagement history doesn’t move between tools
  • Replace merge tags — MailNesto uses {{first_name}} with optional fallbacks {{first_name|there}}
  • Update signup forms on your website to MailNesto’s forms or the WordPress plugin
  • Send to your most engaged people first while the new sender warms up

Exporting everything from Mailmodo

Menu names change from time to time — the steps below follow Mailmodo’s own help pages, linked at the bottom.

  1. 1

Export lists and segments. Go to Contacts, open the Segments and lists tab, click the … menu on a list or segment and choose Export to CSV. The file downloads, arrives by email and is kept in the Download Center in account settings.

  2. 2

Use an admin login. Users with limited access can’t download contacts, so run the exports from an account with full access.

  3. 3

Download the suppression list. In Contacts, click the three-dot icon beside Add contacts and choose Download suppression list. It lists people who unsubscribed from individual email types.

  4. 4

Ask about bounces. Mailmodo’s suppression-list article only mentions unsubscribes. Check whether bounced addresses are in the file; if not, ask Mailmodo support for them before you close the account.

  5. 5

Copy the HTML version of templates. Open each template you still use and copy its HTML. For AMP emails, take the HTML fallback, not the AMP part, and plan a replacement for each interactive block.

Automations

Rebuilding your Mailmodo automations

  • Abandoned checkout flow → Abandoned cart recovery.
  • NPS or feedback email → How likely are you to recommend us?, sent two weeks after someone gets the “customer” tag, with a survey block in the email.
  • Product recommendation campaign → Goes well with… a week after an order, and Browse abandonment for people who looked but didn’t buy.
  • Webhook-triggered emails → one-to-one messages move to the transactional API; sequences start from a tag your app adds through the REST API.
Watch out for

Common mistakes when leaving Mailmodo

  • Interactive parts won’t render in MailNesto emails. Replace an in-email form with a button to a landing page or survey, and keep the first question to one click so the extra step costs little.
  • Mailmodo’s ${…} parameters left in HTML print as plain text. Search for “${” in every template before importing it.
  • If someone unsubscribed from one email type only, don’t put them on the suppression list, which blocks every email. Leave them off the matching list instead.
  • Mailmodo’s custom SMTP setup doesn’t transfer, but the account behind it can. MailNesto has presets for Amazon SES, SendGrid, Mailgun, Zoho ZeptoMail, Netcore and others, plus any SMTP server.
  • If you registered with Google for AMP sending, that registration isn’t needed for MailNesto; standard DKIM, SPF and DMARC are what matter.
  • Countdown timers and time-sensitive images built in Mailmodo don’t carry over. MailNesto’s builder has coupon-code, rating and NPS blocks, so a Diwali sale email keeps its code and a feedback email keeps its one-click score.
FAQ

Questions about moving from Mailmodo

Does MailNesto support AMP email?

No. MailNesto sends standard HTML email that works in every inbox. Interactive steps happen on a hosted survey, form or landing page one click away.

Can my app still trigger emails?

Yes. Use the transactional API for receipts, OTPs and alerts, with templates and data per message, or add a tag through the REST API to start an automation.

Can I still collect ratings from an email?

Add a survey block to the email. Clicking an answer opens the hosted survey with the choice linked to that contact, and results show in Content → Surveys.

Will product recommendations still work?

Yes. Connect your store and use product blocks for bestsellers, new arrivals, picks for each person, recently viewed items or cart items.
