How to move from Brevo to MailNesto

Export your contacts and designs from Brevo, bring them into MailNesto and send your first campaign — usually within a day.

Overview

Moving from Brevo to MailNesto

Brevo users often come to MailNesto for things that sit next to email rather than inside it: a deals board with tasks and companies, event pages with QR tickets, shopper predictions, and client workspaces for agencies, all on plans billed in rupees with GST invoices. Some keep Brevo in the picture anyway, because its SMTP relay is one of the delivery servers MailNesto connects to out of the box.

Contacts, attributes, list membership and the blocklist move as CSV files. Templates are harder: Brevo’s help centre covers sharing templates between Brevo accounts and uploading HTML, but not downloading it, so plan to copy code from the HTML editor or rebuild designs. Workflows, campaign statistics and transactional logs stay in Brevo.

Step by step

Five steps to switch

  1. 1

    Export from Brevo

Contacts > (no list/filter loaded) > select CONTACT checkbox > Select all contacts > More actions > Export > choose attributes and CSV separator > Export; download from notifications center.

  2. 2

    Import into MailNesto

Contacts → Import: upload the CSV or Excel file (or paste it), map the columns, choose a list. Import only subscribed people, then paste unsubscribed, bounced and complained addresses into Audience → Suppression list so they never get email again.

  3. 3

    Bring your designs

Templates can be shared/imported between Brevo accounts; direct HTML export not confirmed. Then import the .html or .zip in Templates, or start from one of ours.

  4. 4

    Authenticate your domain

Add the SPF, DKIM and DMARC records MailNesto shows you, then send a test. New senders ramp up gradually to protect your reputation.

  5. 5

    Rebuild automations

Start from a recipe (welcome, birthday, win-back, abandoned cart) or build your own journey with branches and goals. Note: Personalisation uses Brevo Template Language, e.g. {{ contact.FIRSTNAME }}. Automations and reports do not carry over.

Before you cancel Brevo

A short checklist

Keep Brevo running until your first campaigns from MailNesto look right.

  • Export unsubscribed, bounced and complained contacts too — they must stay suppressed
  • Note when and how people subscribed (consent) and keep it in a field
  • Download reports you want to keep; engagement history doesn’t move between tools
  • Replace merge tags — MailNesto uses {{first_name}} with optional fallbacks {{first_name|there}}
  • Update signup forms on your website to MailNesto’s forms or the WordPress plugin
  • Send to your most engaged people first while the new sender warms up

Exporting everything from Brevo

Menu names change from time to time — the steps below follow Brevo’s own help pages, linked at the bottom.

  1. 1

Export all contacts. Go to Contacts with no list or segment loaded and no filter applied. Tick the checkbox in the CONTACT column, click Select all contacts, then More actions → Export. Choose the attributes to include (EMAIL is ticked already) and a CSV separator, and click Export.

  2. 2

Pick up the file. The export takes a few minutes. Download it from the notifications centre (refresh the page if nothing shows); the account owner also receives it by email.

  3. 3

Repeat for each list. Click Load a list or segment, choose a list and run the same export. A file per list lets you drop people straight into the matching MailNesto list.

  4. 4

Export the blocklist separately. In Contacts, click Add filter → Email → Email campaigns subscriptions → Blocklisted, and optionally choose a reason. Select all and export what the filter shows. Contacts blocked only from transactional email are listed under Transactional → Settings → Blocked or Unsubscribed contacts.

  5. 5

Download campaign statistics. Open Campaigns → Statistics, choose the period, click Show Statistics and use Export (.csv file). For a single campaign, scroll to Email Campaigns at the bottom and click Report next to it.

  6. 6

Copy the HTML you want to keep. For emails built in Brevo’s HTML editor, open each one and copy the code into an .html file. Designs from the drag-and-drop editor are quicker to rebuild in MailNesto’s builder than to recover as code.

Automations

Rebuilding your Brevo automations

  • Welcome message workflow → Welcome series, or Personal note from the founder if you prefer a plain one-to-one email.
  • Anniversary date workflow → Birthday treat for birthdays, Membership anniversary for a member_since date field, or Renewal reminder seven days before a renewal_date.
  • Product purchase follow-up → Thank-you & review request, then Goes well with… a week after the order.
  • Abandoned cart → Abandoned cart recovery for Shopify carts; WooCommerce stores can use Browse abandonment and Second-purchase nudge alongside order tracking.
Watch out for

Common mistakes when leaving Brevo

  • The import screen maps FIRSTNAME and LASTNAME automatically, but check the rest: other attributes become custom fields named after the column, so DATE_OF_BIRTH arrives as date_of_birth and your email must use {{date_of_birth}}.
  • Don’t import the blocklisted file as contacts. Paste those addresses into the suppression list with the reason “Imported” (or “Bounced” and “Spam complaint” if you split them), and import only the subscribed lists.
  • If you keep Brevo as a delivery server, copy the Brevo URL from the “Bounce & complaint webhooks” card on the Sending page into Brevo’s webhook settings, so hard bounces and complaints suppress addresses in MailNesto too.
  • Transactional email that your website sends through Brevo’s API is a separate switch. Leave it running, or move it to MailNesto’s transactional API (POST /transactional/send with a templateId and data) when your developer has a free afternoon.
  • Date attributes need to be YYYY-MM-DD and birthdays MM-DD for date triggers and date rules to read them. Fix the format in the spreadsheet before importing.
FAQ

Questions about moving from Brevo

Can I keep sending through Brevo?

Yes. Add Brevo as a delivery server with its SMTP login and key. MailNesto then sends campaigns, automations and transactional email through it, with routing, daily limits and warm-up around it. Connecting your own servers depends on your plan; see pricing.

Do my Brevo forms keep working after the switch?

They keep adding people to Brevo. Replace them with MailNesto forms (inline, pop-up, bar, slide-in or full screen) or the WordPress plugin on the day you switch, and do a last export from Brevo after that.

What about deals in Brevo’s CRM?

Deals aren’t part of the contact export. Recreate open deals on the MailNesto Deals board, whose stages you can rename, and keep closed deals in a spreadsheet for reference.

Will Brevo’s statistics show in MailNesto reports?

No. Reports start fresh with your first MailNesto campaign. Keep the CSV from Campaigns → Statistics if you want year-on-year comparisons.
